School: Cielo Azul Elementary, Rio Rancho, NM

Original Author: Tina Burton-Crunk, Rio Rancho
Students will use the 4 sections of Math Explorer to explore the concept being worked on in class. This will give them "fun" practice of concepts and will also help them to use the concepts in a real life setting as well as be able to problem solve while learning and getting their answers reviewed. Since there is a timer students have a time limit placed on how log it takes to complete the assignments. This will give them a goal to beat and a sense of accomplishment when it is completed. Also since they will be repeating the same concepts they learned in class they will be able to put their knowledge to use furthering their understanding. Also they will build their classmates excitement when they get further or see the work (oh I mean game) for the first time. This would also be a good tool for reteaching?
Comments
This is a series that seems to have a lot going for it and would be interesting to see students utilize it to further their concept learning.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Connect the geometry section to Social Studies with the exploration of actual castles and period learning.
Follow-Up
find other real life connections to what they are learning so that students remember to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
