How does our morality reflect what is socially acceptable? How have we changed? How have we stayed the same? How has science affected culture? How does literature reflect society?Are we the person we want to be or are we what society deems acceptable? Are we morally responsible?
Students will already have been discussed The Age of Reason, Ben Franklin's biography, and almanacs. Students will be given the 13 virtues that Franklin created in order to lead a more moral life. Students will discuss ethics, morality, and virtues. Students will read and identify the virtues found from the list of proverbs found in Prentice Hall's Literature Textbook on American Literature. There will be response discussion to the list. They will then be given another list of aphorisms to interpret. They will need to use laptops and Microsoft Word to complete the project. Students will work in pairs
The Almanac Project
_____50 points You will be required to write down what each aphorism means and hand in the sheets. _____39 points You will be required to identify 1 aphorism for each virtue for a total of 13. _____30 points You will be required to create a list of 10 virtues for today’s society/culture. _____50 points You will be required to create an aphorism for each of your virtues. _____10 points You must use present tense. _____21 points You must use at least 1compound sentence, 1 complex sentence, 1 compound- complex sentence.
