Some of the activities may include... The Lorax ~Prior to activity... *Take a photograph of each student (a head shot). Print each picture as a 3x5 size. *Print bookmarks on orange cardstock that say, We “mustache” you to read with us. *Pre-cut mustaches from yellow cardstock to fit the size of student pictures. Read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss ~Make Bookmarks ~Glue each student's picture to the top of a bookmark. ~Have students glue the mustaches onto their pictures, so the students look like the Once-ler from The Lorax. ~Laminate the bookmarks to help protect them.
Fox in Socks Prior to activity... *Take a photograph of each student (a head shot) with the students sticking their tongue out. Print the pictures as a 5x7 size. Read Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss ~Review alliteration; discuss each student making a sentence using the first letter of their name. EX. Mrs. Morrison makes many mistakes. ~Give each student scrap paper to write a rough draft of an alliteration starting with their name. ~Edit student alliterations and make corrections as needed. ~Write each student’s sentences on chart paper to share with the class. ~Students then write their sentences on pink 1x24 inch strips of pink construction paper. Check each students work if their sentences are correct; allow them to trace the lettering with a fine point permanent marker. ~ Roll the pink paper around pencil to give it a curl, glue on pictures.
Oh, the Places You'll Go Prior to activity... *ask the students to think about what they want to be when they grow up. *have their families help them dress up as the profession they choose. Read Oh, the Places You'll Go ~Discuss different careers options. ~Have each student share their outfit and have them talk about what they want to be when they grow up. ~Take a photograph of each child wearing their outfit. Print the pictures as a 4x6 size. ~Each child will receive a picture of them dressed as what they want to be when they grow up with a note from the teacher reminding them to always follow their dreams.
Cat in the Hat Prior to activity... *Take a photograph of each student with their hand up pretending to tip their hat. Print the pictures as a 8x10 size. Read The Cat in the Hat ~Review rhyming words. ~Have the students brainstorm rhyming word pairs. ~Discuss each student making a poem using rhyming words to tell different places they can read. EX. I can read in a tree, I can read with a bee. ~Give each student scrap paper to write a rough draft of their poem. Remind student that they need to use three sets of rhyming words. ~Edit student poems and make corrections as needed. ~Students write their poems on a blank Cat in the Hat template. ~Glue hat with poem to the top of the students pictures.
