The students will use the Digital Citizenship IT Curriculum Unit Package to learn about Cyber Safety. The students will then use Socrative to review the material learned in order to assess their learning. Socrative is an app/computer website that allows the students to take a quiz online that has been written by the teacher. The teacher can log-in and view the student answers to the quiz in real time. Once the teacher is confident that her students are familiar with the material, then the students will be asked to create a presentation. The students will use the app Haiku Deck. Haiku Deck allows the students to create a PowerPoint-like presentation. After the presentations are completed the students will share their presentations with younger students. Depending on the age of the students, it may be more appropriate for the older students to create a presentation using ChatterPix or Tellagami. Both apps allow the user to create an animated figure that will repeat a recorded message. This may be more appealing to younger students.
Comments
This is a great lesson to teach a large number of students about digital citizenship and to give older students a leadership role.
Follow-Up
Younger students can create a poster displaying (on paper or on an iPad) a rule they learned. The presentations and quizzes done by the older students can be taken for a grade using a teacher created rubric.
