Students will discuss what they think makes a society function. After a 10 minute discussion, each student will become Ruler for a Day. As the ruler, they have to write down rules/laws for their land.

Each student is given paper to begin brainstorming. Students will write ideas about what should and should not be allowed in their land. On the back, students will write how those rules will be enforced and by whom.

Students will then pair up on computers and work together to create a Magna Carta based on what they each felt was important. Students will research certain local, state, and federal laws to compare to their own.

Once students have created their Magna Carta, they will have to decide how to distribute the laws to all of the people in their land. Each pair will present their Magna Carta to the class in a power point presentation.
