Score it, Take 2!

Create a score for a puppet opera based on a children’s story book
-following a study of opera as an art form, and perhaps experiencing an opera performance, have scholars incorporate elements of opera into a student-created puppet show (chorus, arias, duets, costumed puppets, sets, etc);
-take a children's storybook, and adapt it into an opera story line
-write songs/script based on the storybook plot; melodies can be well known melodies, with original lyrics
-create puppets using materials of the students' choice (paper bags, Popsicle sticks, socks, etc.)
-create sets/puppet stage
-create & perform for younger audience

Classical application (music appreciation/history connections) ; if a composer they are studying in the regular classroom made contributions to opera, it could be an extension of that as well as learning by-doing in understanding what it takes to create an opera.
