Context for Learning
Art classroom with 6 Round tables for student workstations, one 50 minute period.

Instructional Delivery
Opening Activities/Motivation:

The word Surrealism will be on the board and students will be asked to come up with an idea (without any use of device or information) about what that word could mean in its context in art. They will share this idea with their table peers and reach a consensus to share with the class. Total time: 5 minutes

Procedures:
1. After, the opening activities students will be directed to log onto digital devices and to access the Google Arts & Culture Website. They will then be instructed to find five different Surrealist artworks on the website and list characteristics of each artwork. They will have 10 minutes to complete their search and list.
2. Next, as a table they will share their lists and make a new list of characteristics that they have in common. 5 minutes
3. The next portion will involve the entire class. Each group will elect a person to present their list and a comprehensive list will be placed upon the board. 5 minutes
4. A new image will be displayed on the smartboard and several students will be called upon randomly to mark or circle where they find particular characteristics. 5 minutes
5. For the last 20 minutes of class, students will be instructed to find articles on an artist of a work they initially chose and answer questions provided to them.

Assessment/Evaluation (Formative/Summative)
Formative: Teacher will walk around classroom to listen and check for understanding while students are working.
Summative: Students will be graded on the accuracy and completion of their answered questions about their chosen artist.
Closure
Exit Slip: Students will list the characteristic of Surrealism art that they found the most fascinating on a post-it note and stick it to the board as they leave the classroom.
Follow-Up
Students will create their own Surrealist artwork based on the characteristics they discussed.
