NC Extended Content Standards:
RF.K.2 With guidance and support, selects or produces letters when asked to write. RF.1.3. Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). RF.1.4 Demonstrate emerging letter and word identification skills. RF.2.4. Demonstrate emerging use of letter-sound knowledge to read words.
Lesson Length: 45 minutes
Focus/Review (5 minutes): Get the students' attention and tell them that we will be working on our letters and words. Ask the students who would like to use the iPad for reading. Tell the students the rules for using the iPad: stay in your seat, plug in your headphones, keep the iPad on your desk.
Teacher Input (10 minutes): Gather students around the iPad and tell them that you will be showing them our reading activity. Show the students how the Osmo works and have them each practice navigating the activities. Then have each student sit with their own iPad. Depending on student's IEP goals, set each student up with the appropriate Osmo Words activity.
Guided Practice (20 minutes): Teacher and TA's rotate between students and provide assistance as needed. Students will complete activities as independently as possible. If a student cannot search through all of the letters at once, give them no more than five letters to choose from at a time.
Independent Practice (10 minutes): Students will complete activities independently for 10 minutes while the teacher and TA's take anecdotal data on student progress and achievement.
