Keywords: flip video cameras, digital camera, photoshop or editing software for computer, mobile computers for classroom
Subject(s): Writing, Reading, Spelling, Grammar
Grades 7 through 8
School: Twin Valley South Elementary , West Alexandria, OH
Planned By: Diane Hartwig
Original Author: Diane Hartwig, West Alexandria
Students will read the poem "Where I'm From" by George Ella Lyon. They will then be given a video camera or flip camera to capture various aspects of their lives showing where they are from. Once the video has been captured, students will use a template to follow the style of poet to create their own "Where I'm From". By using the video I can explain more in depth how students "show" not "tell" their details in their writing. Finally the students will edit their video and make a slide show or video presentation of their writing.
