Writing a story with a beginning middle and end can be difficult for some students; It is especially challenging for English Language Learners. This series of lesson plans utilizes art and technology to result in a student produced book with illustrations.
Lesson #1: Brainstorming - discussion of brainstorming and work with internet
Lesson #2: Storyboarding - Students will select story ideas
-teacher will have drawing paper folded in 3 parts - Beginning, Middle and End; Students will draw a picture for each to coordinate with their stories
Lesson #3: Writing - First Draft (this can be over several lessons working on beginning/middle and end)
Lesson #4: Revising - students learn to revise and edit; creating a new draft
Lesson #5: Peer Editing - students complete an editing session with peers; the will be producing draft #3
Lesson #6: Typing - students will learn wordprocessing skills as they type their stories into the computer
Lesson #7: Illustrating - students will use computer graphics programs and wacom tablets to create digital art for their books.
Lesson #8 - Publishing - The final pieces will be printed and put together - two can be made - one for the class library and the other for the student.
