This assignment can be done all at once (if you have many FLIP cameras or over the course of a 9weeks or semester by using one or just a few).
1. Students will be loaned the FLIP camera for a few days (or a week) during which they will take the camera and film themselves interacting with people in the target language in local community. 2. After collecting their videos (and perhaps editing them), they will present them to the class (8-10 minutes total). 3. Students will share what was the hardest things for them during the interactions and what were the easiest. They will tell what they liked the most and why. 4. Students will graded using a rubric for their participation and product with this FLIP video production.
This lesson complies with the 5 C's of foreign language teaching and with most state and local standards. It is a creative and great way to get kids using the target language outside the classroom in a real and creative way that they love and get excited about! |

This lesson works well with social and community building concepts. It can work great with math (send them to a local taget language market or bakery and have them select several items working on a budget and numbers in the target language |

1. Extend the lesson by considering what they could have said to improve the conversation and what they would do differently next time
2. Extend the lesson by having them go back again and visit with the same people and see how their conversations expanded and changed over time. |
