Brilliant Book Trailers

Objective: TLW create book trailers for their book using flip cameras and animation software (as needed).

Mini-lesson
Introduce: Book trailers are book recommendations that persuade the reading community to read/not read a book.
Discuss: When you are creating your book trailer, you will begin by showing the cover of your book and telling the title and author. You will tell the intended audience (who would like this book – kids, adults, etc.) Then you will read the summary you wrote about your book. Then you can tell a few of the book’s strengths and give your star rating (5 stars, 1 star, etc.)
Apply: Students will view a book recommendation created by the teacher using a flip cam and animation software.

Independent Activity/ Assessment:
Students will use their book recommendation forms to help them create their book trailers.

Essential Questions: Why are book recommendations an important element of a great reading community? How is a book recommendation similar to a persuasive writing piece?

Probing Questions:
How will my book recommendation form guide me through the creation of my book trailer?

Resources/Materials: books, paper, pencils, book recommendation forms, book trailer videos
