As a volunteer and part time tech specialist and webmaster, I see needs in the school. I work more with teachers now, than with students. You can see some of our school's needs on the Dozier Elementary website now @ http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/dozier/digiwish/choice.html.
Dozier Elementary is interested in acquiring digital cameras, reading and math software with your help. The process is done online or by mail through Digital Wish. Interested in helping us? Any help you could offer Dozier Elementary would be great! Just look for Dozier Elementary, Erath Louisiana in Vermilion Parish. Link is @ http://www.digitalwish.com/dw/digitalwish/view_school?id=71890
My Philosophy:
Technology growth within schools, stem from hard work, dedication, commitment and an ongoing love of learning.
I believe that it is important to recognize where you are in terms of learning and move forward from there. It isn't important what others are doing down the hall. What is important is that you want to move forward. I strongly believe that "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." No matter what path you are on.
I love working with technology and volunteering to help in schools since I retired. I do work part time as tech specialist and webmaster.
I have assisted Supervisors and leaders in the district with curriculum, lessons and more.
I love helping schools and teachers with effective technology integration.
Iretired due to health reasons in 2007, but remained active with ed tech in the district and at Dozier Elementary after retirement. Though I do part time work as a tech specialist, tech coach and webmaster of several sites, I also volunteer many hours of work as a advocate of classroom technology.
I am webmaster of many district sites. I created the Vermilion Parish Curriculum site in 2008 and work with others to keep it updated.
I was born with a hearing disability, but most people don't realize how, as a teacher, I used that to my advantage as a teacher for many years. Read how I brought the lessons of my disability and tied it into tech in my classroom @ http://stacybodin.edublogs.org/2009/09/07/changing-with-the-times-my-thoughts-on-classroom-technology
Favorite Books:
I don't have a favorite novel or book... I love reading and learning in general. My favorite short story however, is "Gift of the Magi" by O'Henry.
Favorite Quotes:
"Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal." Henry Ford
Interests:
Photography, reading, learning about computers and technology integration practices.I have presented at the school, district, regional, state and National level for many years now. My NECC presentations include the years 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Employment History:
Worked 26 years for the Vermilion Parish School District. Retired from teaching 2007, but have worked helping with technology since I left the classroom setting.
Why Do I Teach?:
I chose to teach because children seem to touch my heart in an extraordinary way. In essence, I believe that helping children open doors to their future is my gift to them, while the openness of their youthful hearts and minds, are and will always be their gift to me.
