The students will learn about forms of poetry. They will write a Haiku poem that is stylistically correct and to understand the nature of haiku poetry. The students will use the digital or video cameras find or create a small video clip or series of images to illustrate the haiku. To incorporate poetry and video or images into a Windows movie maker or photo story presentation.
Assessments that will be used to measure understanding of each learning objective and/or activity… • evaluation of poetry (3 lines of 5/7/5 syllables, vivid word choices, paints a word picture of something in nature, no empty syllables, etc) • check-off of whether student captured an image to illustrate the haiku using either the digital camera or video • completed presentation
Detailed process on implementing the lesson into the classroom. Include activities that will be used to develop understandings… • Students were first given examples of haiku poetry. • Together we create a list of details that encompass what haiku poetry entails. • Students brainstorm possible nature topics to write about. • We create a word bank to use in writing our class haiku • From the word bank, we create a haiku in each class. • Students then follow the same process for their own nature topics of choice. • After creating a haiku that is checked for stylistic accuracy, students are given time to capture a digital image of their haiku. • Once the image is captured, students can either read their poem or type and scroll their poem in a movie maker or photo story collage of all haiku poetry and collected images.
Resources that will be used to develop understanding… • digital camera • digital video camera |
