Students should already have a general knowledge of how to use digital cameras to take photos. This lesson will be used in conjunction with a field trip. Divide students into groups of 3-4 before the field trip. Explain that each group will have one digital camera to use during the field trip to document their learning experience. Each person in the group should take pictures at some point of the trip. It may be important to remind students that while they can take some pictures of themselves to include in their Photo Story, they should focus their photography on things that they learn or do on the field trip. Remember, each story should document learning!
Upon the return to school, students should work in their groups to upload photos to a computer so that they may decide which ones to use in their story. (This is best to do in a computer lab so that the teacher can lead all groups in uploading photos simultaneously.) After photos have been uploaded, students should use the Microsoft Photo Story software to edit their photos and add captions for each photo. If time allows, students can even add sound or animation to their Photo Story.
Each group should share their Photo Stories with the other groups. This is a great way to assess learning from the field trip. |
