My high school yearbook students have a daunting task of creating not only their high school yearbook, but also one for grades prek-8. We use three digital cameras: Canon Powershot G10, and 2 Panasonic FH20 Lumix. I currently have eighteen students, and we meet every day for 47 minutes.
Students use photo editing software to edit the photos we have taken at various school activities and athletic events. We are able to crop one photo, and repair blemishes on another. My students are able to remove students from photos and add them to a border across the bottom of the yearbook page. Once one student discovers a new enhancement tool we could use on photos, that student will teach his/her peers in a lesson where we all practice immediate hands-on learning. This enables each student to get to be the teacher in an area where he/she has exhibited strength. We review our edited photos on a slideshow to determine which should be included in the yearbook spreads. Many of our photos end up on sports posters on our hallway walls, or on bulletin boards.
Last year we were idle for many days, waiting for our school photography company to supply us with photos to insert in our yearbook spreads. This year we are able to use Adobe Photoshop to edit candid shots, creating interesting photos that the students love to see! |

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Photo editing software would be an asset if you are assigning creative writing projects. Each student could create a photograph, edit it to their preference, by adding people, etc. and then writing a story to correlate to the photo. The photo could serve as a cover to the story, and encourage using figurative writing in their text! |
Follow-Up |
It seems like as soon as we figure out how to complete one task on Photoshop, we find another one just as fun! Endless variety of options to make your photo one worth remembering! |
