Objectives- Students will be able to: utilize technology to increase student learning; create video using camcorder; understand scientific method; write and read a script for a video; inform others about scientific method and science fair procedures. The Science Fair is right around the corner. What better way to teach how to create a science fair project board than by having students video record a class project! Introduce the scientific method to the class by creating a poster or visiting the website: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_scientific_method.shtml
Discusseach step in the scientific method. Brainstorm a list of possible class projects with students. Have students vote for the project the class will complete and record using a video camcorder (such as a Flip Camera). Identify each step of the scientific method pertaining to class chosen topic, conduct experiment with the class, and create science fair project board together. Write a script of what is important for people to understand about conducting a science experiment using the scientific method. Assign students parts to say for video. Create a title for video. Students create a video to teach others how to conduct a science experiment. They use script and science board created during the class' experiment to demonstrate. Use video editing software, such as Tool Factory Movie Maker, to finish video. Students can share the completed video with other classes in the school and answer questions. The video is also great for students new to the class and/or school, younger students and/or families unfamiliar with a science fair, and older students to review important components of the scientific method and the science fair. Video can be saved and played using computer and a projector or burned onto a DVD and shown with TV and DVD system. |

Students can create a feedback sheet and give to teachers or classes to determine if video was helpful and any improvements that can be made. |
