Original Author: Becky Walden, Shelbyville |
Students will work individually or in groups to create feature stories highlighting the following: a classroom activity, a talented student, a talented athlete, a word of the month, upcoming events, students speak, and tips for success. They will write a script, narrate it, film video clips to go with the story and conduct interviews. They will capture video using Tool Factory Movie Maker, then edit the footage to create a feature story on video. Once all the feature stories have been combined into a single newscasts, they will add a 30 second lead, a title, and credits at the end. The newscast will be copied onto DVD and played on the Channel One network thoughout the school. |

Comments |
wireless microphones are optional, but they do improve sound quality. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Enhance the newscast with short skits written and acted by the students; for example the girl who tries out for football, or how to get a date for the dance, or act out a Christmas or Halloween poem. Do book reviews of new library books. |
Follow-Up |
Add a local, state, or national news story to challenge students to pay attention to the world around them, and to find out what their interests are. |
