These lessons lead up to our Civil War Ball.

The Civil War Ball is an activity that helps students learn about Alabama and Blount County during the Civil War.

1. Students go to the computer lab and research regiments and battles

2. Students write reports on how people lived, dressed, customs and food

3. Make maps of troop routes

4. Learn to recite the Gettysburg Address orally

5. Learn dances and music from the time period

6. Listen to local tales about what happened in Blount County

Parent volunteers, teachers and staff transform our elementary gym into memories of the Civil War. Students dress appropriately in Civil War attire. This project is a collaborative effort between students, parents and teachers and brings the past to the present.
