Planned By: alex mendez
Original Author: alex mendez, Chicago
The students will be learning about story boarding, directing, stage design and stop motion photography. The students will be exposed to silent films, commercials and claymation. The students will work in groups to create a story about a social theme that is relevant to their lives. Once the students have completed their story board they will begin designing the stage. For this project, the stage will be a drop cloth placed on the floor and all props and acting will be coordinated on the drop cloth. Then they will use foam board and modeling clay to build their stages. The students will rehearse. After the filming has been complete we will work with the computer classes to add sound and edit the images together to create the continuous short film.

Comments
I have written a grant for the flip cameras and am wondering if it would be possible to become entered into the video editing and production grant?
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
I plan on enlisting the help of the Middle School language arts teachers for this project. I would like to collaborate with them and get their help with the storyboarding and scripting of the films. I think that working with them to help the students to tell a sequential story is imperative. I will be working with the Librarian to offer some research support for the students.
Follow-Up
Students will evaluate and critique their peers work. The films will be shown to a school audience and community members. At the screenings, the students will receive feedback from the audience. The students will be available to answer questions and to explain their ideas. During class time, I will have weekly conferences with students to check progress and help with adjustments to their projects. I will give students pre and post assessments to gauge their level of understanding and learning.
