School: Central Elementary School, White Pigeon, MI
Planned By: Theresa Hazard
Original Author: Theresa Hazard, White Pigeon
I have many reluctant readers in my 1st grade classroom. So I need a way to engage them in reading.
They are so used to gameboys and Leapsters..., I feel if I give them that technology in their hands they will feel like they are playing, instead of reading.
I would introduce the technology to my students, with a story that is exciting.
We will be able to digitally read it, and thenwe can then talk, write draw about the setting, charecters, we can compare and contrast.
Everything we can do with a book in our hands, but with the technology in their hands they will feel more powerful. They feel powerful when they defeat a game, and I want them to feel that power when they read.
This technology would be able to be used across all subjects including Science, Social Studies and Math. Non-Fiction books are harder to get students to read, but I can see this technology opening that door to them.
They will be able to read books to younger students thus strengthening their skills.
This technology in my classroom can't really be used with one lesson plan as it would be an ongoing daily activity, that would expand my students world and help them become excited about reading.
