Grade: Kindergarten
Subject: Math (basic shapes)
After a few days of discussion on the basic shapes (triangles, squares, rectangles, circles and ovals) and their attributes studetns will explore the shapes around them in their everyday life.
Studetns will tour the school campus in small groups. Each group will have their own Filp camera. Students will take pictures of the shapes they see around them in their everyday live such as: A school bus is a rectangle, a door is a rectangle, our luchroom seats are circles...and so on. Each studetns will need to take a few pictures for each of the different shapes.
Print the pictures. Giving each student their pictures you can creat a class shape book. Students will glue their picture to the given paper and write a predictible sentence about their picture, such as: "Our school buses are rectangles", "Our doorways are rectangles". Keep in the classroom math library.
The next project will be a picture video created using the Flip software. Put the students pictures together into a movie using the Flip softwear. You can then create a photo book by recording the student's voices reading their pages of the class book, or create a new line for them to read such as:" When I see the window I see a square"... Students will enjoying reading their shape book and watching their shape video over and over!
