Students will learn Spanish vocabulary and grammar concepts (conjugations of the verb 'decir' and affirmative commands) that deal with helping preserve the environment. The culminating product of this unit is a PSA (Public Service Announcement). I will show students examples of current PSAs on YouTube. We will have a group discussion on what makes a good PSA. Students will divide into groups and create a PSA. As a group, students will decide on an environmental topic. They will then research how this topic impacts the earth. Each student must have at least 7 lines in the PSA. Their main objective is to inform other people about an environmental topic that they have chosen and what they can do to help. Students will be graded on their communication in the video based on their oral communication and interaction in the target language (Spanish). Students will use the flip video to film their PSA and then they will edit their videos in animoto. The final products will be put on the teacher website for all classes to view.

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
I could team up with a science teacher who could go further in depth with endangered species and environmental issues. I could also work with one of our technology teachers/classes to discuss editing of videos and flip videos. |
Follow-Up |
Students can go to teacher website and watch video. They can choose a few videos and write a brief synopsis about what the PSA was trying to get across. As a class, there can be a group discussion about PSAs and how they impacted the student's thinking around a topic. Students can then vote on their favorite PSA. |
