The classroom will be split up into four equal groups to research an European explorer. Mission: As a group, gather information about your explorer. Use at least 5 sources during your research, including 3 different types of sources. Once your information is collected, you will be turning your research into a written report and video documentary. The written report and documentary will include the following components: Introduction, Childhood/Family life, Education, Setting Sail, Where in the World (explorers route), Mission Accomplished (was he successful in what he set out to do?) The documentary must include at least three re-enactments of the explorers life. As a group, it is up to you to research in the library for the following information: Childhood/Family life, Education, Setting Sail, Where in the World (explorers route), Mission Accomplished (was he successful in what he set out to do?) One person, designated by the teacher, will serve as a "floater" during research, to help others on the team. (You really only need to do this if you have an odd number of students. The following assignments MUST be completed by EVERY group member. Every person will be expected to hand in a packet containing the following assignments. Explorer Notes 10 points A written report including all the components listed above. 20 points A map of New York indicating the area the explorer "claimed" marked by the flag of the country it was claimed for. 5 points A timeline of your explorers life. 5 points A stapled packet of all the COMPLETED research notes for your group 8 points A completed reading assignment given by your teacher. 5 points A storyboard that organizes the information for the documentary. 5 points A list of sources you used for research. 5 points A labeled map depicting your explorers' route. 2 points Video Documentary 20 points At least 3 skits, written similar to a Reader's Theater, to be used as reenactments. Think creatively, scenes, costumes, voices, etc. 10 points A "reflection" journal in which you HONESTLY reflect on yourself and your group members' contributions to the project. 5 points. |
