The project is based on an American history event from whatever period is chosen. Students will develop a documentary as if they were announcing the event at a meeting of the townspeople from that historic time and place. At the end of each film there will be a "So What?" segment that explains the impact the event had on later American History.
Students will have 2 teams of which they will be a part; the home base team and the expert group. The home base team will review the assignment sheets and assign numbers to the members (1-4). Each home base team member will be assigned to an expert group based on their assigned number. Team members with a 1 will summarize the "what happened" during the event and complete a graphic organizer to present back to their home team. Team members with a 2 will summarize the "who was involved" during the event and complete a graphic organizer to present back to their home team. Team members with a 3will summarize the "why did the event happen" and complete a graphic organizer to present back to their home team. Team members with a 4 will summarize the "what was the result" of the event and complete a graphic organizer to present back to their home team.
When all team mates return to their home base, the job of the team is to review and share the collected information, work on any visual materials and create a 5-7 minute presentation of a "current event" to people in a town meeting during the time of the event. Students will use the flip video to film, and either the flip editing tools, or movie maker to complete the project.
The final segment should be presented to a modern audience to explain the effect this event had on later history. |
