School: Arlon R Seay Elementary Sch, Spring Branch, TX
Planned By: wendy clark
Original Author: wendy clark, Spring Branch
Weather:
**Students will integrate weather patterns and forecast into the morning announcements.
**Students will communicate, with confidence, and develop consistent eye contact during recording time.
**Students will explore probability of weather versus actual results.
**Students will predict, analyze and compare various weather channel "forecast" and deliver results via flip video.

As a third grade, we have implemented weather forecasting into our curriculum. During our school wide morning announcements, a scheduled pair of third graders visit our outdoor weather station. We then record, using the flip video. The students explain wind speed, temperature and precipitation. They also "predict" what the weather will be like at recess time.

The paired third graders then deliver the flip video to the "green room" for viewing. The fifth grade team converts the weather forecast into a "movie" to then be added to the morning announcements. The entire school then views the announcements along with the weather forecast.

Comments
This is a wonderful activity that boosts confidence and gives the kiddos a chance to be a "movie star" for a week. The younger students will stop us in the hallway, if we missed a day, and ask where were you ???
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students use math probability and science weather trends to forecast the daily weather. Confidence and communication skills are practiced, then using edit and redo, perfected to be viewed by the school!
Follow-Up
Once the students view themselves on "TV" they can critique and improve for tomorrow's recording! Some of the students watch or listen to the actual weather forecast and provide their own twist.
