goal: to incorporate the vocabulary and grammar acquired throughout the second semester by creating a series of short advertisements
general video project instructions Group size: only 1-5 students will receive credit. Unlimited cast (all must appear and speak equally on camera or points will be taken from all. Spanish 2 may not work for credit with Spanish 3. BE CAREFUL WHO YOU PICK TO WORK WITH. I AM NOT ASSIGNING GROUPS. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR GROUP. ONCE YOU TURN IN STAGE 1, YOUR GROUP IS FIXED!
Format: The only accepted format is a FLIP camera! Upload to youtube.com after you are done and email me the link.
video rubric: Stage 1 10 points approval sheet completed, accurate, useful, typed Who are your group members? When are you going to record the video? Where are you going to record it? Write a breif summary of what you plan on advertising. Approval Sheet Due: March 3, 2011
Stage 2 10 points dry run of camera/technology Record a very short video where all group members are on camera and introduce themselves (nombre y hora) en español. The point is to solidify your group membership and the camera format you plan to use. Dry Run Due: March 9
Stage 3 40 points final script en español. typed, double-spaced Do not use translator software to write your script. Do not use grammar that has not been introduced to your peers. Limit your use of vocabulary that is too challenging for them. Stage 4: 80 total points THE VIDEO 20 preparedness set, costumes, creativity, presence If it looks like you pulled together garbage at the last minute, it will show. Do not wear school uniforms unless it fits the product you are selling. Put pride in your work. This video is a demonstration of what you have learned this year. Show off. 20 educational comprehensible, level appropriate Spanish Do not use translator software to write your script. Do not use vocabulary and grammar that have not been introduced to your peers. 20 entertaining enjoyable, comprehensible, witty I am not asking you to be Hollywood actors. Make sure you speak Spanish and keep the interest of the audience. Clear, slow speech at an appropriate volume level is easier to understand! Do not just read your lines. Put in some emotion. Use appropriate costumes and appropriate, exaggerated, melodramatic facial expressions and body language. Keep your Spanish simple. It will be more pleasing to your audience. Think “¡Extra!” 20 production basic audio/video quality, editing I am not asking you to be Hollywood directors and editors. Make sure your video is clear and easy to understand. Plan, Plan, Plan. The key is what you say and do in front of the camera. Think about the scene before you start to film. Plan on recording more than one take. This is Spanish class, not filmmaking class. However, this is also a college prep course. If the format is not acceptable you will have to redo it and you will lose points. If you choose to do more, that is fine too, but Spanish comes first.
1 point extra for each day completed early and turned in up to 10 days before due date (April 8). It must be acceptable in all aspects, including script. On the contrary, each day late will lose 20 points. VIDEO Due : April 18 It is due even if you are absent that day. 140 points for the whole project
Odds and ends You may work with people from other sections of the same level. All members must appear on camera and speak. All must share time equally. Puppets and/or animation are acceptable. All must contribute equally.
If you are late, you will be docked 20 points each day you are late. DO NOT MESS AROUND! Do not give lame excuses. Show character. If your group does not have access to a FLIP video camera, the library has some flip cameras available for checkout.
Official warning Spoken English and/or “dead air”, homemade signs or music in English: VERY BAD Profanity, Immoral acts (suggested or completed), Nudity, Excessive Violence (Tarantinoesque): EXTREMELY BAD
Inappropriate material earns a re-do; points will be taken away and possible administrative action will be taken. You are responsible for what you/your group turn/s in. If you are not sure, you may request a “private screening” far in advance of the due date. Upon completion, you must turn in a typed, double-spaced script. It must match what you said. Use background music that is instrumental or Spanish language only. Keep it at a low volume level, so as not to distract your viewers. Beware of spring winds! ANY background music with English lyrics loses at least 20 points.
Do not advertise anything you cannot legally buy (drugs, gambling, etc.). Keep it PG.
Advertising hints: Make 10 short (30 seconds long, each) commercials. Modify already existing ones or create your own. Some decent commercials have been made by: Mastercard, Doritos, Vonage, GEICO, Monster, Coca-cola, Alka-Seltzer, Pepto Bismol, Mentos, Apple, local small business, etc. Use celebrities or SPX employees to endorse your products. Wear costumes. Pretend to be talking animals. This is worth almost 2 test grades. This is your chance to have fun with your knowledge. Be inventive, be creative. Make false commercials a la Saturday Night Live, Leno, Letterman or Conan, “We’ve replaced your blood with Folger’s Crystals Instant Coffee, how do you feel?” Give old products new uses ex. BÚHOS – snack chips that increase wisdom. Give them catchy names. Have fun, make it entertaining. |
