The class brainstorms topics for HOW TO videos. The topics are listed and then voted on. Once the HOW TO topics are chosen, the work begins on preparing a script, organizing the content, and practicing the various parts. For our class, we chose HOW TO: follow directions to make a craft, correctly wash our hands, use base ten manipulative, and complete a science experiment. Procedure: 1. Discuss with students the HOW TO video selection. 2. Compile a list of steps necessary to complete the activity. 3. Organize the steps in chronological order. 4. Determine options for segmenting the video for filming and participation purposes. 5. Write the script or dialogue based on how the steps were segmented. 6. Collect and prepare props. 7. Choose or assign segments to various students (Our goal was to try to include everyone in the class.) 8. Practice, practice, practice 9. Film each segment. 10. Edit the segments. 11. Create the final video project. 12. Repeat for each video topic.
Our videos will be shared in our own class and with other classes. If lessons are videoed for various concepts taught, those videos can be share with other teachers, absent students, or used for instruction in years to come.
