School: Frontier Middle School, O'Fallon, MO
Planned By: Molly Kleiber
Original Author: Molly Kleiber, O'Fallon
Objectives: Students will use a variety of media to create a five minute video about lab safety. Students will be able to describe and explain safety in the science classroom.

Problem: The new 6th graders don't know any lab safety rules, equipment, or procedures. The 8th graders will need to show the 6th graders how to be safe in a science classroom.

Procedure:
Students will work in groups of four to present their lab safety topic. Each group will be given a specific topic to cover in detail. The groups will create a video and demonstrate how to be safe in a science classroom and incoroporate all of the lab safety rules into their video. Prior to creating the lab safety videos, the students will work in small groups to determine important lab safety rules. They will then collaborate as a class as to which rules are the most important for labs. The class will narrow down the rules and determine which rules, procedures, and protocalls are the most important. Students will work with their groups to create a video with music, pictures, and other examples of lab safety.
