LA.5.1.7.8. The student will use strategies to repair comprehension of grade appropriate text when self-monitoring indicates confusion, including rereading, checking context clues, predicting, note-making, summarizing, using graphics & semantic organizers, questioning, & clarifying by checking other sources.
Materials:
1 Kindle Fire per student (22) and 1 for Teacher Instruction
10 downloaded stories onto each kindle

As each student has their own Kindle Fire I will be able to help the kids to make their own book notes and highlights right onto their own screen. As we learn and develop our reading strategies such as using context clues, making predictions, summarizing, determining importance, making connections, and questioning the students will be able to highlight t and take notes right onto the kindle. I will also be able to monitor their progress as their notes will be available for others to see. Students will also be able to share their thoughts on book passages and ideas with friends, family members, colleagues, and the greater Kindle community of people who love to read. This is a new way for readers to share their excitement and knowledge about books and get more from the books they read.
This essential tool will not only help increase reading excitement, but also develop their reading and testing strategies. The Kindle will be able to help all children in all levels of intelligences, and allow for differentiated instruction for all students.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
These Kindles would also lend themself to numerous math, science and social studies programs that would greatly benefit the students.
