School: Edison Elementary School, Danville, IL
Planned By: Sally Moore
Original Author: Sally Moore, Danville
Students in third grade at Edison Elementary will take a guided tour of Danville, Illinois. The tour will be lead by a staff member from the Vermilion County Museum. The students will learn about several historic spots in Danville on the tour. They will also tour Spring Hill Cemetery and learn about some of the most important people in Danville's history. During the tour a few selected students will use a digital camera to take pictures and video record. During the week after the tour students will be divided into groups and will use the pictures and videos to create a power point presentation on what they learned during the tour.
Comments
The third grade classroom is already equipped with six Mac Book laptop computers that have power point installed.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This activity could be applied to a Social Studies unit on early times in America. It could also be used during Reading when the students read the story "Boom Town" and learn about how towns got their start.
