School: Sunny Hills High School, Fullerton, CA |
Planned By: David Fenstermaker |
Original Author: David Fenstermaker, Fullerton |
Sunny Hills is at a crossroads in the community and at the school itself. School Spirit is mixed at best and the marketing of the high school is in dramatic need of an overhaul. We have a tremendously talented and very diverse population of creative students. This will be their opportunity to shine while also giving back to the school by pioneering a TV network to be streamed on our school's website in classrooms once a week and in videos available throughout the year.
The students will be fully in charge of content, production, editing and on air talent for a variety of programming on the network. The graphic design class at Sunny Hills will work on the look and logo of the programs. The drama and fine arts department is excited to have another outlet for their creative talents. We have enlisted the Associated Student Body to provide information for students regarding special events that can be promoted for students on our campus. Each week students will produce a 5 minute news program highlighting key points about the school and one "human interest" story about a student, teacher or program at the school whose story needs to be told. Students will be responsible for reporting to the same high school journalism state and national standards. They will will be running the network like it was a television network complete with demands for specific types of programming, specialty programming for our athletic teams and eventually a film school component for longer form programs. |

Comments |
This is a full service grant request because the program is in its infancy. Any help would be immensely appreciated. |
Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
There is a slew of cross-curricular potential in here as listed above. Everyone from the drama department to the graphic design and computer class will be involved in the creation of this. English classes and journalism classes will be heavily relied on for writing and editing work. |
Follow-Up |
This is continuous activity. As a follow up we would like to encourage student submission for contests and hope to inspire students not in the club or class to be a part of the network's programming. |
