This lesson will take place over several weeks. Students will investigate measuring the circumference and height of the pumpkin in small groups. They will have string and one inch cubes to do the measuring. They will have to come up with how this can me done without the use of a tape measure or ruler. Then the students will have to figure out how they will weigh the pumpkin using a scale for people. Finally, they will count the seeds by putting them in groups of ten. Students will be taking pictures of this process as they go. The pictures will then be uploaded to a computer where they will have to opportunity to write about what they did and what they learned. They will take this finished project to the preschool and kindergarten and share what they did and learned. Students can learn by researching how a pumpkin grows and grow a pumpkin plant themselves with the seeds once they have dried. They can also help the younger grades grow a pumpkin, too. |
