Classrooms are getting more technology savvy every year. This year we've started a new reading series that has tons of hands on games, literature, and activities for smart board use for whole group and differentiated centers. Our math series has also updated their technology aspect. One difficult aspect of this new trend is that I don't have a smart board, I barely have a laptop that works to project anything, and there is no way to improve this aspect of my situation. The students love doing these activities web and game based activities, they are much more focused and excited to learn. I believe that having an iPad mini to use in the classroom will increase student success and decrease problem behaviors.

I plan to use the iPad mini during reading, math, and intervention. During reading, we can use the iPad mini to play games, re-read stories, and use other online resources. There are aspects of the reading series where the children can sort words, practice writing letters, and read along to differentiated stories. The iPad mini would be an immense help in implementing these aspects of the reading series. There are also different applications that would be extremely helpful with student practice.

During math, the students would benefit from the same type of practice through the math series and applications.

The most exciting and beneficial aspect of using the iPad mini would be during intervention time. These are the hardest to reach students. They have no parental support. They have behavior problems. They are unmotivated and are struggling through the most simple assignments. On the iPad mini, the students can read interactive stories, play games, practice writing, watch short videos, and have fun! The iPad mini will keep their attention and increase their learning.

All of the different aspects of the iPad mini will increase student success, especially those students who are having a difficult time. They will receive extra attention and time with the iPad mini, which will increase good behavior as well as quality time practicing skills.
