Since this is a skill and presentation based lesson students should work with partners throughout the lesson, especially if they tend to be shy. A rubric was used with peer evaluations of the presentations composing a quarter of the overall grade of the project. Partners brainstorm a list of five favorite foods and type the list using MS Word. Students should be creative in coming up with their favorites and using multiple fonts and sizes for their survey list. After printing their list of five favorite foods the partners should survey their classmates to determine the classes favorite food based on their five choices. After getting all survey results partners should add the information into their MS word document and save. Then take the data and put it into MS Excel to create a graph. The graph should be properly labeled with x and y axis and represent the data in an understandable visual format. Students should be encouraged to change graph options and colors along with trying out different graph types such as bar, line, pie, 3D horizontal, and conical graphs to see which fits their data best. Partners should begin creating a PowerPoint presentation in MS PowerPoint with a title slide listing the title of the presentation and the creator’s name. Partners should be encouraged to develop animations, backgrounds, transitions, sound effects, and multiple special effects for each slide to gain attention for their foods. Each food from the survey should have its own slide which includes at least three images, a title and description, and the number of votes. Students are encouraged to have YouTube videos, songs, sound effects, animations associated with their slides if appropriate. Special Note: When looking for digital images online use safekids.com child safe search to limit inappropriate images. Also, you will need to teach copyright laws prior to the lesson to help avoid copyright infringement when using images from specific businesses. Students should cite their image sources on the slide and on a references page at the end of the PowerPoint. After the title slide and food slides are created students should create a graph slide importing the previously generated graph from Excel. Students may create a final slide encouraging their personal favorite from their choices. Slide order should be title, 5 food slides, graph, final thoughts, and citation slide. |

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
Could be integrated with PE curriculum to build a healthy diet presentation. Could be linked with Social Studies to present on different foods from different cultures world wide. |
