ANDY WARHOL/POP ART Lesson Plan

OBJECTIVES:
Students will
1. Learn about Andy Warhol’s life and art
2. Use the internet to complete a webquest activity focused on Andy Warhol and Pop Art
3. View works created by Warhol.
4. Create a Pop Art style work using Ipads and imagery focusing on today’s Pop culture as the subject.

DISCUSSION:
Students will watch a United Streaming Video that introduces the movement of Pop Art. Student then will read from Scholastic Arts Article focused on Warhol and Pop Art in the art room. They will also view reproductions of his work and discuss the idea behind Warhol’s art and the pop art movement.

ACTIVITIES DAY: 1
Students will meet in the computer lab and begin the webquest handout.

ACTIVITIES DAY: 2
Students will continue the webquest and complete it.

ACTIVITIES DAY: 3
Teacher will explain what Photoshop is and how it is used today. Students will set up a Photoshop document correctly and begin putting pictures into Photoshop following teacher demonstration on the overhead projection screen. Student will pull in 9 pictures of their choice, resize and arrange so that it is pleasing to the viewer. If students finish they will create another Photoshop repeating instructions of teacher but using different images. Students will save both documents in their file.

ACTIVITIES DAY: 4
Students will use the Photocopy filter to apply to all pictures and use the bucket to fill with colors so as to imitate a real Warhol.

ACTIVITIES DAY: 5
Students will open their second Photoshop document and apply filters of their choice to this project.
