Essential Vocabulary:
community, therefore, exhibit, integrity, achieve, potential
Procedures:
1. Review the new school motto.
2. Discuss the meaning of a school motto and the concept of community and culture.
3. Have students help identify vocabulary that may be difficult to understand.
4. Explain that the students will be teaching the primary grades in our school about community and the school motto.
5. In groups, students will create a visual representation of the school motto for the younger students.
6. They can make a power point, skit, music video, photo slide show etc. to illustrate the difficult concepts of the motto to the younger students.
7. Students will select groups of 2-4 and select a team leader. Students will then delegate roles and responsibilities to everyone in the group. They will present the final product to each other and then to the students in grade preK-2.
Assessment: Students will be graded based on a rubric that assesses if they meet the components of presentation and information.
Technology Needs:
Students will use laptops to research and define the essential vocabulary words. Students will take pictures and video of examples of themselves or adults (teachers/principals) demonstrating the concepts (ex: Two friends problem solving and telling the truth to demonstrate integrity). They will then take the videos and pictures and create a final project (power point, imovie, prezi).
Follow-Up
Students will finalize their project based assignments with presentation to other students in the school.
