We have digital cameras available for student use. They are to take a selfie with someone the never talk to and don't know.
The students have to ask the new friend one detail about themselves (ex: I like video games, I love to do art)
Then the student has to share a fact about themselves to their new friend.
Student will share info on assignment in Google Classroom.
When they return to class they have to printout the picture and the information they received.
Class will work together to make a patchwork quilt for bulletin board.
This lesson is to teach students that sometimes if you just talk to someone you can find you have more in common than you think, It also is a wonderful tool for communication and collaboration.
All students will submit a paper on Google Classroom about their experience and what they learned.
paper has to be written in essay form. I will share paper with their English teacher for a grade.
Comments
This project will help our students with social skills they lack. We are trying to work on student's learning to communicate with adults, peers, and community businesses.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Writing report of what the experience taught them.
Writing a newspaper article about the experience.
Follow-Up
We will build the quilt and showcase our finished project. Students will develop other ideas on projects to create to build other social skills and communication skills.
