Targets for this project include writing skills, critical thinking skills, peer learning, and reducing plagiarism in the research writing process.

Requests for this project include $4,000 for use of a one-year subscription and professional development training for turnitin.com for Most Blessed Sacrament School and an iPad device from which to orchestrate and manage the subscription.

Goals for this project include improving original student research projects, improving evaluation of efficient and proper research, providing online grading and collaborative feedback in a speedy and timely manner, and providing a safe place for student peer review and editing.

The seventh-grade students will submit the Social Studies Fair research paper via the turnitin.com website that will provide an originality report and will identify spelling, grammar, and usage errors so that the teacher and peers can provide thoughtful feedback with QuickMark or custom comments. Teacher has ability to record voice comments for students. Teacher will also be able to perform tasks from a computer or tablet instead of toting class sets of research papers.

Outcomes will include an improvement of writing and critical thinking skills, an increase in peer learning, a reduction of unoriginal writing due to increased knowledge of the research writing process, and a decrease in grading time allowing the instructor to focus mainly on providing substantial feedback. The reduction of grading time will allow students the opportunity for more time to edit and rewrite for the next draft after receiving feedback.
