The fifth graders at Hancock School are actively immersed in the use of Google Apps for Education in writing class. We use Google Docs to publish our writing pieces, Google Slides to create collaborative research projects, and Google Forms to take tests and quizzes. Eight of the laptops we currently use are over 7 years old and must be plugged into a charger in order to turn on. That means they automatically shut off every time they accidently get unplugged, even if we are in the middle of our work. There are 13 other laptops that are only five years old, but there are only 6 chargers for them. That means they can only get charged every other day. We do have 11 new Chromebooks that were funded through private donations and grants, and WE LOVE THEM. We are hoping to raise the funds to purchase a class set of new Chromebooks so future fifth graders at Hancock School can count on reliable access to Google Apps for Education in order to develop and perfect their research, writing, and collaboration skills in preparation for their future as global citizens in the 21st Century.
