My second graders attend a diverse inner-city school in California where over half of the student population qualifies for free or reduced price lunch. My students are a super sweet, very diverse, hardworking, energetic, amazing group of children. Each one of my students is very special.
They bring their own unique strengths and different needs to our classroom community. They love reading, listening to read alouds, writing, math-especially math games, doing science investigations, and showing their creativity through their artwork.

Our classroom projector doesn't have enough light output so images are difficult to see and it can't be wall mounted. The kind of camera we have can't be separated from the projector. I have to position them both behind the students when they sit on the rug while they look at the screen. This is not an ideal setup. I'm teaching my lessons from behind the students with their backs to me! I'm not able to engage with them the way I should be. When students stand to use the camera to share their work or raise their hands while sitting, they accidentally block the lens on the projector. The projector and the camera often get bumped and students trip over the cords because we just don't have space for them to be behind the rug right in the middle of the room.

We need a new projector and document camera to project clear, crisp images of books so that the students can do shared reading with me and I can model reading strategies. My students need to be able to clearly see each other's writing and math work so they can teach one another. They also need to clearly see 3-D objects like our live caterpillars, and math manipulatives when I am demonstrating math tasks/games. This projector and camera will completely transform our classroom, my teaching, and my students' learning. There will be more space with the projector mounted up high. I can separate the camera from the projector, sit in front of the students, and actually have their eyes on me while I teach. My students will be able to see images/videos clearly. There will be more engagement-more learning!
