My Students: Are you one of those hard working parents or single parents who would love to be at school to participate and see all that your child does throughout the school year? Today parents are hard at work and are unable to attend school functions or your child's grandparents are too old to visit?

My classroom generally consists of varying degrees of abilities, single parent families, rich/poor, and behaviorally challenged students. Today's parents are so busy working and are unable to volunteer in the classroom like days of old. Many children live with one parent and the other parent rarely gets to be a part of their child's school experience. The sadness on these students faces on awards day when their mom or dad cannot be there is heartbreaking. To be at school to witness them play a star role in a play or score the winning point for their academic team is so unrewarding to the students. Even to view work displayed from projects or giving a class report could be so motivational to the students if they knew their family members could watch and be so proud. With this camcorder, we could video these events and each child could have their own DVD to take home and share, then have as a keepsake for the future viewing. What great connection from school to home. Future stars!

My Project: I am requesting an Flip Video camcorder and accessories to use throughout the year as I video students sharing class reports, acting out a skit, singing a song, exhibiting work, cooking for Pilgrim Day, working with classmates on a project, reading aloud, playing on the playground, or receiving an award.

So many parents, due to work schedules, are unable to visit their child's classroom and share in their day. The camcorder would be used to video and record each child's day onto a dvd or computer for that child to take home and make copies for grandparents and other family unable to attend. This would be motivation to the students, knowing their efforts did not go unnoticed and that the ability to share it with their loved ones would be great joy.

The DVDs sent home with each child would be like a timeline of important events in that year of his/her child's life. The DVD could be shared with ALL family members far and wide. All students/adults like recognition for his/her efforts and even more so children. Parents would be more likely to support the classroom if they knew all that went into a child's day, week, month, and year! My students need the opportunity to share what they have accomplished at school, with a Flip video camera and a flash card, and to share with the busy parents who are unable to attend school functions.
