Our classroom needs a document camera.

In our day and age, technology is a way of life and in the classroom technology is a way to make learning more engaging and exciting. From teaching at a school in a different state where I did have the use of a document camera, I would say a document camera is an essential teaching tool.

A document camera allows me to display student work and photograph it. It allows me to show a science experiment on the big screen so all students can see it. It allows me to show the pictures in a book large enough so each student gets a chance to see the pictures when reading a book aloud. A document camera allows me to put a worksheet under the camera whenever needed. The possibilities are endless with a document camera.

This piece of technology not only allows me to be a better teacher, but it serves as a way for students to present their work. There is nothing better than seeing a child put their writing piece under the document camera and seeing their face when their work is projected on the wall for all to see.

A document camera will allow me to present material in a new and exciting way. It allows for spontaneity in learning. If a student finds an insect on the playground, we can project it for all to see. If a student has a question as to where we are in a story, I can project the book to help them find their place. In the past, when I had access to a document camera, I can say I used it at some point in every lesson, every single day.
