Welcome!!! We are a classroom of 4th and 5th grade students in a Behavior and Learning Support (BLS) classroom in the northwestern portion of Baltimore County, Maryland. We are looking to purchase a laptop to use with our newly acquired ELMO and LCD projector. We don't need anything fancy - just something to help us bring our lessons to life! We know that times are tough, and that many people are struggling right now, but we ask that you please consider pledging because students in our classroom not only work very hard on learning to cope with their social/emotional disabilities, but we also sincerely appreciate the generosity and, throughout the year, we intend to support others whenever/however possible just as you have supported us today. Not only are students in our classroom asked to focus on specific social/emotional goals and objectives, each student also receives the same grade level curriculum as any other 4th or 5th grader in Baltimore County Public Schools. We work with students each and everyday as they strive to achieve their social/emotional goals and then, when ready, become "mainstreamed" to continue learning within a larger group of their peers. Although we work intensively to teach students the coping skills and strategies necessary to be "mainstreamed", we also understand that it is very important that the entire team (including the student and their parents/guardians) believe the student is truly ready for this step. After all, our ultimate goal is to ensure that every one of our students has the "tools" necessary to be successful in elementary, middle, and high school, and throughout life! It is especially important that students in our BLS classroom are truly "engaged" in the learning process (many studies suggest that students lose interest in learning if they have not become actively engaged and have not had exciting learning experiences before they leave elementary school). Our population of students is especially at risk for becoming disengaged in school. With your support, we CAN be successful though! Thank you again for your consideration!
