Through creative and personalized learning experiences, students become engaged. It is imperative that educators understand and meet the needs of 21st century learners and encourage the use of different learning approaches, including using technology, to engage students. This is the main reason I am “wishing” for four iPads for my classroom. My first grade class consists of 26 students of whom 77% are below grade level in reading. The four iPads would allow for differentiation throughout the school day. Students will be able to find "just right" texts and apps for independent use and application of skills taught. While my struggling students would be able to use the iPads to address their specific needs, it would also provide my advanced readers with an opportunity to challenge their thinking through critical thinking applications and collaborative experiences with others. Increases in reading stamina, through the use of current technology, will significantly impact academic achievement and foster a life-long appreciation of learning.
