"Seeing is Believing" is a project to help bring visual supports into my classroom. As a teacher who works in Special Education, I see how important it is to create technology integration to motivate, teach and enhance student learning in the classroom. I work with middle school students who primarily qualify for Special Education under Autism Spectrum Disorder. Many students in my classroom learn best when lessons, materials and prompts are presented in a visual format. This helps to cut back on verbal instructions and prompts, which may lead to overstimulation in the environment. Having a digital camera, document camera, projector and projection screen will help increase visual prompt opportunities in our classroom. This will help with student learning by allowing for smoother transitions, decreasing anxiety and other inappropriate behaviors while increasing opportunities for independence. It will also allow students to follow step by step visuals for activities, such as art or cooking, for whole group instruction. Visual supports are extremely important in helping students in my classroom with their daily routines, functional academics, communication and reinforcements. By adding these tools, it will be amazing to see student motivation and independence increase as students are able to access and share their learning experiences.
Thank you,
