Students will research names of Veterans, including Veterans in Victory Nursing Home in Walterboro, SC. After contact with Veteran, students will ask permission to interview a veteran using a cam corder or digital camera. Students will use Photo Story or Movie Maker to make a documentary of the Veteran's life. Students will use letter writing, digital camera activities, email or pen pal type activities to contact the veterans. The students will go to the nursing home to meet World War II veterans and interact with the veterans to write their life story.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This plan would be appropriate for English/Language Arts, especially in the areas of reading and writing. It would also be appropriate for Social Studies and as a service learning project.
Follow-Up
Presenting information at PTA meeting, visiting Victory Nursing Home in Walterboro, SC, sending care packages to armed forces servicemen and women, Take a Veteran to lunch.
