This would take about five-seven 52 minute class periods to complete.
Students will be divided into groups of 3-4 (photographer,cutural coordinator, cook, fashion designer/ artist) and pick a region/country to represent. Students will be responsible for applying appropriate charcteristics to the region.
Cultural Coordinator will note the customs and holidays of the region by writing an articles that exemplifies the practices of the culture. They will aide and be aided by the others in the group. The researcher will be a "overseer" to ensure that all customs and characteristics applied to the region by peers are accurate.
Fashion designer/ artist will work to draw/create an outfit that envelops the traditions and styles of the locals. These outfits may be worn during the presentation. Artist will burn a CD of the types of music that are prevelent to the region to be played throughout the presentation.
Photographers will document the groups progress and final presentation. They may also find pictures in National Geographic magazines that embody the culture of the region. (The pictures taken by the photographers will be used to create a community calendar :)
Cooks will research the types of foods that are locally grown and prepared within the region. They will be responsible for preparing a dish to show/ share with the class for their presentation. They will explain the relevance of the dish i.e. cabbage eaten on New Year's Day is for wealth. |
