School: Positive Connections: Calcasieu Academic Treatment, Lake Charles, LA
Planned By: Jessica Rivero
Original Author: Jessica Rivero, Lake Charles
1. Give students a short pre - test on cause and effect relationships (Can be done with paper & pencil or through a voting responder)
2. Introduce the lesson by reading a story to the students that demonstrate a cause and effect relationship (Example: If You Give A Mouse A Cookie or If You Give A Pig A Pancake)
3. Complete a Cause and Effect Graphic Organizer with the students about the book you read.
4. Read another book and then have the students complete the graphic organizer as pairs.
5. For the culminating activity, students are going to fill in the cause and effect graphic organizer as a group. Once the organizer is complete, they will be able to use it to create a dialogue that will show that relationship. Once the dialogue is written and each person in the group has a part they will play, the group will rehearse their dialogue before recording on the Flip Video Cameras.
6. After the students record their videos with their Flip Video Cameras, they will edit the videos using some type of movie editing software (Example: Movie Maker).
7. At the end of the video, the students will add slides that have the various cause and effect relationships written in sentence form.
8. The videos will be shown to the class and be posted on our class website.
