School: Holley-Navarre Interm Sch, Navarre, FL
Planned By: Glenn Rutland
Original Author: Glenn Rutland, Navarre
5th grade students (entire grade level – 250 students) will attend high school Marine Science class on Navarre Beach through a school sponsored field trip. We have 12- 5th grade classes so there will be 2 classes attending each day for 6 days. 5th grade students will be paired with high school students in 10 different groups. Each group will study and explore marine science curriculum.
Groups 1-10 will be given a flip camera and writing journal. As the high school students teach the 5th graders about marine life the 5th grade student responsible for documenting the lesson will use the flip camera to capture everything that is being said and done (from the initial introduction of the lesson to the actual dissection of the shark and squid), Students who are responsible for journaling will be taking notes that will later be transcribed into a resource book and added to the video.
Each station that the student groups visit will have a different theme. Students start with the history of the marine life in our area and end with the dissection of a shark and or squid.
